Creating a New Online Youth Culture

The PBS Frontline documentary "Growing Up Online" shows how the amount of technology effects children. With every year that passes children are becoming technically advanced and more intelligent. The children start having a need to have the internet so that they could communicate with friends and even learn from the internet. The internet has become almost like a new culture and a new way that kids live. The largest population that are associated with the internet is the teenagers. It is becoming nearly impossible for parents to control how teenagers use the internet.

Some programs that effect children are Myspace and Youtube. It becomes a social issue if you don't have the internet and don't understand how to work the technology. The Myspace program creates a social profile for the children to communicate with people around the world. Children produce a page about themselves and make friends with different people. Youtube is another program that is invading the teenage lives. It's a program that influenced a negative thing in a positive way, that it is okay to video tape peoples lives and that its cool to do stupid things. It is now normal to have internet bully's and to have websites that promote horrible things. One internet subject that is mentioned in this video is, how to commit suicide. This site disturbed me in many ways and yet there is no way to regulate them.

The way that children are being effected in school. Teachers are now required to have a data projector and have computers fro every student. It is thought to be the new way to get the teenagers attention and to be able to teach them. The technology that is being introduced to students has a positive and negative effect of them. Students no longer think to read a real book instead they read on the computer, through spack notes and different notes.
